The School of Living Music is running a project called Got Stuck in Victoria’s two youth justice Centres. We are inviting Guest Artists to perform and collaborate with young people who are in detention. Living Music mentor artist Joe Snowden (pictured here) reports back below:

On Guest Artists visiting the Centres:

“Rapper Fraksha did a short performance on the secure side of Malmsbury and asked some young people to rap with him. They then spent some time writing and talking about the scene. A handful of lads were pretty star struck and Fraksha spent the last 5 minutes signing sandals.”

On newly introduced one on one sessions:

“I spent an evening working one on one with a client in Malmsbury. We spent 15 minutes picking out a beat and then we started writing. I introduced him to a few new styles and structures he hadn’t used before but most of the time he used me as a rhyming dictionary asking for new words when he got stuck. After finishing off the first verse and chorus we recorded the ruff stems and ended up with a half finished song.”

Got Stuck is funded by Creative Victoria and the Australia Council for the Arts.
